About Me

Hello! I'm Lucy Wheeler and I am an Illustrator currently living in Fareham Hampshire UK.

I have always loved to draw. I had a huge obsession with anything Disney as a child and grew up watching cartoons. I especially loved the slapstick humour like you find with The Looney Tunes! I love hand made animation be that 2D or stop motion, seeing films that are hand made really inspire me!! As well as my growing collection of Animation Artbooks!

I have a BA (Hons) degree in Digital Animation from the University College Falmouth and achieved a 2:1 in 2011. Soon after I discovered a new passion for childrens illustration, which was triggered by numerous browsings in book shops and libraries. A few of my favourite picture books are "It's a Book" by Lane Smith, "The Pirates Next Door" by Johnny Duddle and a long time favourite would be "The Winnie the Pooh" books illustrated by E.H. Shepard.

With illustration you get to design everything not just the way a character looks but also what their world looks like and even though at the moment I do feel more confident at character design and my environments are quite basic this is something I want to develop. I love seeing images in books or galleries where you feel like you can escape into that image and imagine that its a real place and those characters actually exist!! I would love to be able to produce images where other people can feel like that when they look at my work. I love to make people smile and laugh which is why my personal style has a cartoony humourous feel.

In the future I hope to develop my illustration skills further by working on a variety of illustration projects.
